cover of The Road to RecoveryA breast cancer diagnosis can provoke a wide range of responses. From anxiety to fear to helplessness, these feelings can add up to a great deal of stress. While there are many resources available, it’s not always easy to know where to look. This is why the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center created The Road to Recovery – a bilingual (English and Chinese) guide for women living with breast cancer. A collaborative effort by our doctors, social work staff and cancer survivors, this book is designed to be both a source of information and comfort.

The Road to Recovery covers many subjects, from communicating with loved ones to coping with treatment to dealing with body image issues. There are interactive exercises to help with expressing difficult feelings, nutrition tips for handling possible side effects from treatment, and a full list of available cancer support resources in New York City and on the web.
The Road to Recovery was made possible by a gift from Shau-wai and Marie Lam and a grant by Susan G. Komen Greater New York City.

You can download a copy by searching the book on our Health Education Materials website or pick up a free copy from the front desk at our 268 Canal Street site.
